A Collection of Premiere Pro and After Effects Training Resources

As part of my series on “How I Went from Knowing Nothing About Adobe Premiere and After Effects to Producing a Client Video in 2 Weeks” I consulted a lot of videos and training resources as I attempted a crash course in Adobe video production.

Creating a “Flicker On” Effect in After Effects

I’m going to compile this and several other posts into a series I’m calling “How I Went from Knowing Nothing About Adobe Premiere and After Effects to Producing a Client Video in 2 Weeks.”  How’s that for a short, catchy title?  Since this effect was the last item I did in the video, I’m going to lead off with this one (and reorganize later!).  If you prefer this as a video tutorial, just scroll down to the very bottom of the post.

New T-Shirt Designs

I’ve found myself in the t-shirt designing business again lately, which has been fun!  The first design was on a short timeframe (i.e. a day) for a company sponsored walk for the American Diabetes Association, so all I had to work with is that we needed a design on a red t-shirt for the walk and then give extras away to customers.  The second one is our entry in a design contest for the youth group winter retreat.  The winner gets to go on the retreat for half price, so hopefully we’ve got a shot at it.

Latest Painting: Aspen Grove

Just completed my own riff on the awesome paintings by Melissa Graves Brown (who is so much better than I’ll ever be!).  I guess it’s true that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!  I love the vibrancy of the colors and the dreamy atmosphere.  Oil on canvas.

Build Your Own Float Frame

I think that the Float Frame (or floater or floating frame as I’ve heard them called) is a particularly stylish way to display canvas art from paintings to canvas photo prints (also check out my video on how to stretch your own canvas).  The thing I particularly like about float frames is that they’re easy to build, look great and they’re pretty versatile as far as framing different styles of art.  In addition, if you want to frame non-standard sized paintings or prints, you can save a ton of money doing it yourself!  In this post, I’ll cover building one from start to finish.  And, if you stick with me until the end, I’ll show you another cool float frame project!

Help! My LG Dishwasher LDF6920ST Door is Broken!

I’m beginning to think my LG LDF6920ST dishwasher is a lemon.  After I fixed the leak in my other post, the door started falling down without any resistance.  Obviously something else is broken!  But it’s my only dishwasher and the prospect of buying a new appliance just doesn’t get me very excited.  And besides, when it works it does a pretty good job.

Rustic Farmhouse Nightstand

I am working on my next project, a rustic farmhouse nightstand to match my rustic farmhouse bed.  Since I finished the bed, we’ve been on the lookout for a nightstand to match, but haven’t found anything that we particularly like or will fit next to the bed.  The few options that we sort of liked are pretty expensive, so here’s a shot at a design that I created to make use of some wood I’m reclaiming from some old shelves that I’ve removed from my garage.

Storm Picture

So I’m taking a break in the middle of my storm picture.  It’s really quite horrid at this point in it’s life, kind of like a troubled adolescent that’s rebelling against everything I want it to be.  And as I’m reflecting on why, exactly, it’s giving me so much grief I think the analogy is a good one – like the angry kid, it’s simply reflecting all of my mistakes in bringing it to this point.

Midnight Blue

Shot this picture very early the other morning.  The “real” view was a beautiful midnight blue sky through the trees just before the sun began casting it’s early morning glow.  But my camera was still set for some pictures I’d taken inside with some funky lighting, so the white balance was totally off.  However, I rather liked the otherworldly effect of the blue and the ghostly pattern among the trees.  Sometimes a trash picture turns out to be something interesting.
